I just noticed today that my trucks temp quickly builds when its idling....it feels like its gunna stall out but hasnt yet. Once im moving it cools right down to where she normally runs. Need advice....im coming up to needing an oil change and i need to replace the heater core this weekend. Any suggestions or advice would help.

Motor:
4.0L V6
329xxx km
5w-30 oil

HELLLPPPP!!

try doing a coolant system flush and getting a new thermostat. also, check your radiator cap. the fan and fan clutch would be next to make sure they are operating as they should. that would include the fan belt as well. those are the places i'd start. ignition also plays a part, but if it runs fine otherwise i'd do the other things first. just my $.02.

I'd lean more towards the fan/fan clutch/belt...if it's one of those, that would explain why it cools down when you start moving...the air gets pushed through the rad without the need for a fan when you're mobile.

Next time you have the rad cap off run the engine and watch inside the rad for air bubbles. This kinda mileage you may have a blown head gasket. The water won't circulate with a bunch of air in there, rev it up and it circulates. But check everything else first. My first thoughts were fan clutch also.

+4 fan clutch. Mine crapped out but it seized up and sounded like a jet when it was taking off not got to loose. But I'd say it probably just got to loose and is spinning close to freely.

+5 fan clutch. I doubt that your radiator needs flushed, because it would be just as hot when you're moving. Also, maybe your fan belt is loose or snapped?

just like everyone else said. fan clutch.

but nobody mentioned how to test it. just run the engine till it gets hot, shut it off and try to turn the fan.. it should feel stiff and you shouldn't be able to fling it more than 1 turn.

not to thread jack, but i think mine does the same thing, when i get in line to pick up my little sister my engine gets realllly hot like the needle is on the h, i sit in line about 20 minutes and as soon as i get moving it goes back into the "normal range" now i do live outside of memphis so its been about 108 degrees everyday.
