Basically I joined because I have a 1989 TVR with a 2.9 V6 and I would like to put in a 4.0 OHV engine, but run with standard Ford parts if possible as I want the install to look 'factory' I honestly do not want to go aftermarket ECU if it can possibly be avoided...

Welcome to TRS. You should be able to find all the info you need in the tech section. If not feel free to through out questions. Thats a common swap that I think many here have done.

You can definitely use a stock 4.0 ECU, but Keeping it looking stock under the hood would depend entirely on what the stock wiring looks like. If the layout is compatible with the same generation Ranger it's doable depending on how you splice things and where.
