Hey guys I have the 3.0 out of my 99 Ranger and am currently at a stand still. I was told the 5.0 engine I'm installing was from a 99 explorer as well but upon further inspection, it has a return fuel rail. What do you all suggest to fix this? I didn't want to mess with a new fuel sending unit and return lines so I figured I could just get a 99-01 computer and a non return fuel rail and swap them. Is this possible or am I missing something?

Also since thisis am older engine than what I thought, my Ranger has the speed sensor in the diff and the computer on 98 and older explorers receive their signal from the transmission/transfer case. Would using the newer computer fix this issue as well?

Thsnks for any and all help!

I may be talking out of my ass here but if memory serves there really is no "non return" setup. There should be 2 lines into the fuel filter from the tank then 1 line exiting to the fuel rail. The excess pressure is returned directly at the fuel filter on the newer systems. If you have a older setup where the fuel return line is at the rail I see no reason you can't just extend the return line down to the fuel filter and use the older style 2 in 2 out fuel filter. There's no need to do anything special to the tank or sending unit.

Injectors, manifolds, egr, wiring harness and likely adapt the transmission wiring would all need to get addressed.

Probably easier to add a return from fuel rail to back of filter and pull fuel pressure regulator from fuel pump canister.

On up side, the earlier transmission probably has a VSS on its tail cone to provide a speed signal.

The later Expo's use the ABS system with a g-force sensor for the speed signal, not the PCM.

Lastly on up-side, the earlier PCM likely does not have PATS.
