You have to have a 4.0 trans. Or in theory a 2.8/2.9 trans but that would require work and youll be getting a weaker trans.

Any 5 speed from a 4.0 OHV will work.

3.0 and 4 cylinder trannys wont bolt up.

try www.car-part.com

Ok…

So the 91 4.0 is an M5OD trans…

you can get another trans and swap the guts in, but the 4.0 was unique in that it has its own gear ratio set.

The 2.3 (single and dual cam), 2.5, 2.9, and 3.0 versions of the M5OD all shared the same ratio set, so, you’re not getting a weaker trans per say, just a ratio set that isn’t gonna be very well received behind your 4.0.

The 2.9 and 4.0 share that same bellhousing pattern, even though they don’t look the same and have different ratios.

I do, however, have 2 4.0 transmissions I’m not using… and I live in Alabama

So, I could always build you one…

PM me if you need…

When i said weaker i was reffering to a TK or mitsu trans.

The TK and Mitsu were never behind the 4.0.

Yes I know they fit, but….
Which is why i said swapping to a 2.8 or 2.9 trans would be a downgrade

I know, and I wasn’t being a jack wagon, I was just trying to give him a fuller answer to his question.

You ever figure out if the 3.0 dipstick tube would fit? If not, I can get you one from a friend.

No i havent had a chance to look into it. Im not sure how to even figure it out. Even if it would being a ford product im sure the part numbers are different lol.

Ill see what i can dig up and pm ya.

I wasnt tryin to be an ass either

😂

No offense taken. If you need a rough measurement, I can get you one in a few hours.
Ok....its not a huge deal.

I actually have one...but its on rusty #1 which is sunk to the rockers in the dirt from where its been parked for 15+ years. Im just trying to find one to save me the hassle of trying to get the damn thing out of the dirt
