To many to list
We have a 99 Ranger 4x4 with 4.0 Automatic. Went to replace the passenger side wheel bearing and the axle is worn too much for the new bearing.
I know they make a sleeve. But would rather just possibly replace the axle.
We have some 2000 and 01 for donors.
My question is will the axle out of any of these work? Code on the sticker of the door is R6 on the 99. And on the donor trucks says 97. So I am assuming it will not work?
There 4.0 with automatic and I believe 8.8 rear ends?
Just not sure on the length and diameter and spline count?
We have a 28 on the 99.
Thanks in advance 😊

A 1993 thru 2009 axle will be fine, same width and will bolt on, i.e. springs and shocks and drive shaft, 7.5" or 8.8"

But you have a 4x4 so MUST match ratios for front and rear axles
You have an R6, which is a Limited Slip differential so preferred over an OPEN axle
R6 also means 8.8" with 3.73 ratio

The 97 code axle is 4.10 ratio and OPEN so won't work on a 4x4 with 3.73 ratio up front

So you need an 86, a 96 or another R6 as a replacement
R6 being most desirable

But..................you can pull just the axle out of the 97 code regardless of ratio and use it in your R6, left and right axles are different lengths

Yeah, 7.5" and 8.8 Ranger axles are both 28 spline and use the same axle shafts just different inner bits so unless one of them is a FX4 level 2 the shafts from either should work just fine

Thanks for the reply & information. Yep I will just pull the axle out of the the 97 code and use it then.😊 makes things a little simpler for us.

Thank you. Nope neither are a level 2. So I should be good to go😊
