Hey guy's I've got a problem here...

I have a 1992 Ranger 4.0 4x4 that has a failing 7.5" rear.

I got a Lockright from a fullsize bronco (8.8 31 spline axles) for free from my mother.

I also got a 8.8 from a 2002 Ranger 4.0 (3.73's open) and a 1999 Explorer 8.8 (3.73's and t-lok).

I don't have the ability to weld new stuff to the Explorer rear end....

Is there ANY possibility to use the Explorer 31 spline guts and brakes on the Ranger 8.8 so I can bolt this rear end in and be able to go to work?

Thanks guys!

The problem is your axle shafts will be different lengths (the explorer will be 1.5" longer) and I believe the 31 spline shafts are 20 thousanths larger than the 28 spline unit. You cannot use the lockright in the explorer rear end because lockrites were only made for an open carrier. The no-slip can be purchased for use in either carrier.

Also, take note that your 92 rear end is about 2 inches narrower than the 2002 ranger axle, and 5+ inches narrower than the explorer axle.

Edit: According to the tech library (which you should check out as it has lots of info) the axle are measured as followed...

Your rear Width hub to hub-56.5"
2002 rear hub to hub-58.5"
explorer rear hub to hub 59.5

Hmm, looking at my explorer 8.8 it appears to be more than 1" longer than my current 05 rangers axle.

thats strange, i understood it as the ex's axle was the same as a ranger for width...

id just put the ranger 8.8 in and sell your other axle and lock right to but one for the ranger 8.8. i never had a problem with mine and im running 4.56's and 33's.

just on a side note.

92 axle is an inch narrower on each side then 93+, so if an expo axle is 2 inc wider then a ranger, your gonna be 4" too long.
