I have Destination A/T's on my Sport Trac, much better in snow than the OE Goodyears which were useless. Have about 10,000 miles on them now and they look like new. Quiet, fine in rain, never tried them off road. It takes an oddball size, there wasn't a lot of selection, and I wanted an A/T for better snow performance.
BFG A/T's and General Grabbers are supposed to be very good in snow also. BFG's are kinda pricey but they wear like iron.
I can highly recommend the Firestones though.

"Yeah the Toyo A/T is the equivelent of an Expensive Overweight Hooker. They are pricy and they are the heaviest of the tires in their sizes... Plus they get really good traction for the whole tread life which is about half of what any other A/T is because the rubber compound is so soft it wears out."

too bad you had such bad luck with yours. my set did exceedingly well with both traction and wear. that's why i have no problem recommending them.

Welll no I never got them for those exact reasons, I wouldn't run toyos if they were given to me. I worked at a tire shop that has exclusive rights to Toyo tires in Alaska and we had more complaints about those tires then just about every other tire we sold. I would say I talked to atleast 100 un satisfied customers with the A/T and Alot more with the toyo observes and a hand full of people with the M/T's.

A/T = Wore out way too fast, heavy and i just don't like the look of them.

Observe = Not a good winter tire... ask me how i know (I owned a set.:annoyed:)

M/T = Liked to chunk out on slightly gravel roads, wore really fast (my friend went thru 2 sets in a summer.

I have no doubt you probably had a good experience with them, But in my personal experience I stand by what I said. Cause they are heavier, and more expensive then most tires out there and out of a couple hundered complaints its hard for me to concider them. :dunno:

A tire I would highly recommend though is the Wild Country XTX, Its made by Dean which is a cooper company I believe.

It is winter rated, with plenty of siping and excellent tread wear.

I've had great luck with BFG A/Ts. Good all around tire that seems to last forever. Lots of trucks come into our dealership with toyo A/T and M/T and 95% of them are cupped so badly the noise is almost unbearable. Heaviest tires I have ever had to pick up also.

I can't decide what tires I want to put on my truck. This truck will be 99% street but i want it to be somewhat capable. Tires good in snow are a plus. I know all terrains aren't exactly good in snow but I just want better than a street/all season.

Anyway, Ive been tossing around a few like the bfg all terrain and general grabber at2, but i cant decide. What do you guys think would be a good tire for me? Open to any and all suggestions.

Also sizewise, I think I want to stay with the stock 245/75r16 unless you can convince me otherwise. I figure while bigger tires look cooler they're gonna weigh more and that added with the change in gearing created will make it less fun to drive.

bfg all terrains in size 245/75r16 will run me $808 mounted, balanced, installed, aligned. the whole 9 yards. Thats about the most im willing to spend. Thanks!

The General Grabbers are an excellent tire for the money. I would never buy a asian POS tire.

I had those on my old '02 Ranger and liked them real well. Real good in snow and surprisingly good off-road in mud for an A/T tire.
Hands down the best all-around tires I ever had were the Bridgestone Dueler REVO's on my old Sport Trac but they wear out awful fast.

i might have to look at some wild country ones. I know my dad has a set of wild country tires on his yukon, same size as mine too. says they were the cheapest ones he could find and theyve been good for 40,000+ highway miles. but theyre not the xtx

I had a set of the Bridgestones too, pretty much the same tread pattern as the wild country. I liked the alot and one of the shops I worked at sold them, not alot bought them but the few that did LOVED them.

The Grabber AT2's are actually severe snow rated, and can be studded. Tread is reasonably aggressive and they don't even offer a standard 4ply model.

I would recommend the Goodyear Duratracs like Mike said cause they have plenty of siping and the option of studding them if you want.

I got mine cheaper than the others AND put 35k miles on them before selling the truck with 5/32nds of tread depth left. No complaints here besides the traction off road isn't really up to "all-terrain" standards.
