ok so i think my cam syncro is going out i say this for several reasons i hear a tap noise sounds like a valve noise but its coming from the top of the motor near the cam syncro and im also sure that the whining noise i hear when i get on the gas to speed up i hear it. i saw it tonite and where it is at it doesnt look to hard to replace just a pain to get to if im not mistaken its on top of the motor near the fire wall. i am correct to assume that it is the cam syncro? or should i be looking for something else? and about how much does a new cam syncro cost? how hard are they to replace? any help would be greatly needed i dont want to come back home with a truck that dont run.

I can't say for sure that your cam synchro is the issue, but it's worth investigating that possibility since cam synchro failure is such a show-stopper.

I didn't find it to be hard to reach/access. But your view of the synchro will likely be obstructed. Using a hand mirror or digital camera to get a view from directly above the synchro is helpful. (It is important to accurately document the trigger position of the old synchro before you remove it, and make sure the new synchro's trigger is clocked to the same position. If you can do this with certainty, the installation/alignment tool is completely unnecessary... I never even removed mine from the package.)

I used the $40 Dorman cam synchro because I was under the impression that they revised the design and eliminated the problems people were having a while back with the earlier Dorman units. But some people choose to pony up the extra cash for the Ford part, which I believe is over $100.

yea im almost postive it is the syncro i was able to get my hand on it and i can feel it making noise so for sure its the problem you can really hear it whine when the rpms drop like when you get on the brakes or when you speed up and its onyl gotten worse. where can i find the gear advanced auto only has the top part that covers the gear.

Get it straight from ford, mine was 150 bucks after tax its not hard at all to replace search the forums and you should be able to find all the info you need to replace it, don't go cheap get the motocraft one. Its a couple hour job for the first time but you will realize its pretty easy after its done, just take your time and do it right and you will be happy. Do it asap before it goes completely and grenades the motor.

yea thats a biggie i can go through my aunts shop and get them from ford cheaper and oh yea not only is the noise getting worse and louder but i dont feel like droping some dough to rebuild my motor even though it would have its upside i just dont have the time at the moment
