on news yrs eve I park my truck and got out about 20 min later i go to leave and my head lights wont work( they worked fine before) but the drive lights come on and do the inteior lights ... im thinking it the head light switch ... how in the hell do you change these out

thanks for your time and advice in advance

Maybe they both just burnt out at the same time? It's more than likely not it, but it never hurts to check.

If memory serves, you can either pull the instrument cluster trim panel and pull the light switch out the front; or you can remove the lower panels, pull the switch knob out, remove mounting nut and pull it down and out.

Actually, if it were me, before pulling the dash apart I'd undo the steering column cover (probably just 2 screws underneath) and check the multifunction switch first. Look for power on the Red/Yellow wire with the headlight switch "on" (full out). If it's powered that would indicate that the headlight switch is good, and the multifunction switch is more likely the problem. Also while you're at the multifunction switch, look close for melted and/or brown plastic where the wires go in (a sign of a problem).

It's not a blown fuse- your year has a fusible link feeding the light switch, and your other lights ARE working.

It could well be either the headlight switch or the multifunction switch, but it's a lot easier to check the multifunction switch first. If the Red/Yellow wire there doesn't have power with the light switch on, then it's time to tear the dash apart to check the light switch. Good luck.

where is this fusible link located?

Either at the starter relay, or on the driver's side fenderwell close to the voltage regulator.
