Thanks to some members here, I got my shifter out. Then i proceeded and got the driveshaft and exhaust off with not too much difficulty.

So now I need to get the whole master cylinder and hydraulic line to bench bleed it (as I am going to be putting on a new slave and i am like pretty dry out of fluid as it all leaked out on the road)

the haynes manual says to remove clip or spring from push rod located on top of the clutch pedal.

truck is an 03 ford ranger

There is a black looking clip thing connected on top of the pushrod to the pedal, is that it? and how do i take it off, tried using screwdriver and needle nose pliers with no go

you had the right idea, it just prys off, no really nice way to do it, just pry. hope this was was your looking for for an answer

I'm assuming it's the same as a 92, but it's a little clip that connects the pushrod to the pedal. It's made of plastic, so just break it off (if you can get under there) WITHOUT damaging the little post on the pedal that it connects to. The piece itself is a circular piece of plastic with little fingers inside that lock the pushrod to the pedal. That's why it's so difficult to get off.

The new master cylinder should come with a new one, as well as a new pushrod.

Insert a wide flat screwdriver between the clutch pedal and the end of the push rod and twist and it will pop off. Do it slowly if you plan to reuse it, if that black clip breaks the rod will tend to jump off the pedal.

O'Reilly's store brand master cylinder is identical to the Ford masters I've seen, and its under $50, replace it now while you're doing the slave. You dont want dirt from the old master getting into the new slave.

That's a good point. Kinda makes me want to try a reverse vacuum flush. Open the bleeder on the new slave, run a line into a big bottle of brake fluid, and then vac the reservoir until it comes out clean.

thanks guys, i was trying hard to try and not break it off, but you guys are right, I might as well get a new master cylinder too.

thanks for the help guys
