Ok so I've got a new fuel pump. I've talked to a number of mechanics and they say the easiest way is to take the bed off and access it. I've got a torx tool for that. I've never done one of these what else do I need to know? I know I need to depressurize the fuel system by running it for 30 seconds with the switch turned off. Thanks.

There are 3 screws that hold the fuel filler neck to the bed, and take out the tail lights or unplug the harness. I didn't remove the bed all the way, I set it on the tires and the bumper and had plenty of room. Oh, it's best to have an extra hand.

hammer and block of wood to get the ring off

Thanks ya'll! Appreciate it. My battery was so low I had my buddy come over to give me a jump start so I could depressurize the fuel system. He then asked me do you know if it's getting pressure? I said I hadn't checked and he mentioned that on one of his jeeps they had a little check valve where you could see and if you opened it up gas would pour out and you would know the fuel pump was fine. I got to thinking and said well I can disconnect the line where the fuel filter is located on the tank side. So I did and he told me to turn it over. When I did gas blew out of there like a garden hose he said. It wasn't intermittent at all. I reconnected the line and it started. My buddy asked if I had ever changed the fuel injectors or anything. I said no although I've thought of doing one of those fuel system flushes need to find a reasonable one. Anyhow I decided to go to Autozone and do some other checking and found out my battery was bad. The truck seemed to be running stronger. I'm thinking there must have been something in my line that i dislodged? Anyhow I got some gas and run this extreme fuel treatment something or other from Wally World supposed to be 2x better than the rest. Well it seems to be doing something because the truck is running a lot better. So I was on the right track I think, but lucky to find the issue. I guess the fuel pump could still technically be going out. I think I'm going to do a fuel system flush first. Sorry about the long post but I thought it might be helpful to someone else.

Update

Well I've since found out my problem. I went and had the fuel injectors cleaned and the guy checked my fuel pressure and said it was steady at around 50 I think. I don't know what it's supposed to be, but it was steady and wouldn't drift. He then proceeded to tell me that my truck was showing that it was misfiring in two cylinders. Then he said you better check your plugs and wires first. Well I know I changed them at tops 2 years ago. I got to searching for what people recommended for plugs and they said that you HAVE to run motorcraft plugs and nothing else! Well I knew when I changed them I had bought some fancy plug from Wally World. I changed 3 plugs and wires tonight before dark and with the fuel injectors cleaned this truck runs like it's new. Of course I still need to change the other 3 plugs out, but I know I found my problem.

Good job!

Heckuva lot easier than pulling the bed.
