I was going to get a late model Tacoma (which I've also owned before, and also liked), but just couldn't justify the price tag. A friend's 2010 Ranger XLT 4WD MT with 38K miles fit the bill, for $10K. I'm excited to add it to the long line of Rangers I've owned. First accessory will be an ARE MX shell, I think.

Damn! That is a fantastic score.
I say this with admiration: YOU SUCK!
Color me jealous.

YOU SUCK!
I knew this forum would be a better experience than reddit!

The picture I posted is of the good side of the Ranger...the other side has a shopping cart dent that I will probably leave in place. I'll post that later.
But yea, it's a pretty good deal.

Congrats on getting the best ranger ever made....

No seriously, I love my 2nd gen and 1st and 2nd gens are built tougher - can take a hit and walk it off, but amongst ALL the newer rangers generally there is some consensus that the 5th generation is the best. And per consumer reports/edmunds/car and track etc etc, just about everyone the gripes with the addition of this or that (TPMS in 2006) almost every year has a known issue. 2010/11 was the best years of the 5th generation cause they had all the bugs worked out and quit touching things.

My mom got an '07 and missed out on a '10, we only learned that the 10 and 11 was the best of the best after the fact.

If my counting of generations seems weird to you, it is because everywhere else (like wiki) has it wrong, here is the correct definition of the generations of rangers:

Oh and greetings from a fellow Coloradoan! (native myself)

Don't know if he is still there, but one of my associates from the 1948 crowd lived in Gunbarrel, 1951 F-1. I've lived all over the eastern half of the state and even worked at IBM there on the diagonal at one point in time, very familiar with the area.

Nice that a score is still possible, Congrats man!

Each of the generations has their plusses and minuses, including the 5th generation but you are correct in that they had worked all the major issues out by 2010.
