Hello and Can I pick Your Brains A Little?


Is it a problem if it has oval ports? As long as it physically bolt up it should work, eh? Or is some porting involved? :icon_welder:
Maybe the Pinto head is in order?
 
Either one will work...it's really a matter of whether they are OK...I'd go with the turbo head myself...if you want to port match them then that would make it better...as well as porting the the head thoroughly...and polishing...can't remember what is better on a carb application but I know I ported and polished my head and I think it works great...probably could have done a bit more but I was being conservative with the grinding...
 
What about cams? I read in an old super ford that cams are notoriously hard to install on these motors. I considered a cam swap, but is it really necessary on a street engine?
 
I had a cam installed that was a slightly longer duration at one time...it did make an improvement over the stock cam and may have been even better if I'd had the current carb/intake setup...but it was more in the top end of the rpms and that actually made a difference in getting onto freeways...I also bought an adjustable cam gear that I never really got to test out...

Is it necessary? Not really...but it will help in getting you into the flow of traffic better...

Just my opinion...there are others on this board that may say otherwise so I'd let them chime in...
