Name is Destroyer and I just purchased a 2000 Ranger with a 3.0/5M. I bought the truck thinking it needed a starter (what was told to me) only to find the motor is seized. What are the chances I can unseize it? I found a remanufactured 3.0 from a '94 Ranger, would this work in mine?. Thanks for any help and here's a pic of the beast. As you can see, it has been slightly "customized":

Slim to None, a 94 has a distributor, yours doesn't, it can be made to work but you would be better off buying a 99-00 motor, although many different years can be put in without major modification. its up to you how much work you want to do to it.

I thought the bottom end of the blocks were all the same. That's all you should need.

I just want to get it running and want to do the bare minumum doing so. Thanks for letting me know about the '94 motor not working. I bought this beast for $300. I'd put up to $1k getting it running/driving. The inside and out are actually in real nice shape. Any procedure you would recommend as far as unseizing the motor?

You could just check the local junkyards, I'm sure there has to be a 3.0 laying around there somewhere.

Why half ass it and fix it all later?? and lower ends had several changes throughout the years, not sure of any between 94 and 00 but pistons, and cranks were changed at some point for sure, even the blocks have had slight changes of the years of the 3.0.
I agree with Toast, a tauraus motor will work but you have to change head gaskets and some other minor things that have been covered several times. Try using the SEARCH function and you will find alot of info about what will and will not work.
Good Luck

you wont be able to do anything w/ it once you unseize it, oversize pistons are not available unless you custom order them. once you break it loose chemically or however youll have huge scores in the block that would have to be bored out and honed and have oversize pistons installed and if your going to do that you might as well change the oil pump and redo the crank/rods but i cant find the parts anywhere. your better off finding a matching yr taurus/ranger and doing a swap. jy engines can run you around 1000 or if your lucky you can talk to a parts house and see if they can get you a remanned long block for about the price your talking.

Taurus is FWD. no problems there?

Head gaskets, waterpump and a few other minor things need to be switched. Search and you will find a million threads on the swap.
Also if you are going to rebuild it, oversized pistons are available, as well as almost anyother part you could ever need.

wow really

if you want the cheapest and easiest way I have done it this way and it works, I worked for a dealership for about 4 years so yeah. remove the heads use two liters of oil dump oil into cylinders also use some higher end lube spray after a day or two use a wood pin or the reverse end of a hammer try and pound down the pistons try it out and let me know

very enlightening post :icon_thumby:

that will unseize the engine but you still have the bad spots in the cylinders that need to be cleaned up/bored. hopefully they arent deep enuff to go beyond millable sizes, i looked again and found the oversize pistons up to a mil over. i havent really seen scores that deep but then again ive never tried to unseize an automotive engine b4 either.

i found .030 overs When i was lookin into rebuilding mine. It was from where we order our SBC parts from(i work at a performance engine shop)

ATF and diesel fuel work wonders over engine oil and you can reuse the ATF for any other seized up shit you might have.

summit racing showed .25 .5 .75 and 1.00 oversize pistons for the ford 182ci 3.0. they arent listed under ranger only taurus, ive been finding all sorts of neat goodies looking thru that way rather than looking up ranger. they are hypereutectic (stock style) pistons however.
