welp .. i just blew the ol ranger up bascally .. im pretty sure i blew both the heads in it .. just rolling down the road and felt like checkin some stuff and smokes pouring out of the vaulve covers and arround the seals of the head .. and turns out i had no oil ? and water vapor was the onlything at the time blowing out of the seals .. ??? :icon_confused: so . .first thing was to get oil .. and see if it just was seriously overheated which either way .. with it blowin out like that .. the moter was ggoin to have to get worked on ..so hear i am stuck at my refil station (a place were they let me use this coverd place to get water for the truck and look at it and shit ) had to call my boi roney out and come get me and take me to walmart to get the oil .. i put the oil in it . and high tail it home .. LUCKILY i was only 2-3 miles from home and when i stopped at a stop sign right before my road i see smoke or vapor pouring out of my hood .. so i just said **** it .. and high tailed it the quarter mile to my house .. and when i pulled in i popped the hood and seen nothing but vapor come pouring up .. and the all to familar sound of boiling water or oil one the outher from the top of my moter .. i got oil starting to leak out of my vaulve covers on both heads of the moter .. but i didnt think to check if smoke was comming out of my exaust .. so i cant be fore sure what the problem is .. my assistant mechanic as i call him ( my good buddy phillip) said from the phone call we had after the fact that its got to be the heads agian .. now it costed me a lil over 250-300+ i think last time to get the heades surfased .. replace all the top end of the moters gaskets .. oil ainti freeze.. plugs .. just the nessiaties .. but the problem is ... if im doin this now .. with 190+ thousand miles on the moter .. im goin to have to do a full overhaul on it .. like hoze the pistin shafts .. replace all the gaskets check the bearings replace the piston rings .. allll that good shit .. because if i want this truck to last me till the 24th of jan ( the day i leave for bootcamp for the marines ) ive got to do more then just work on the top end right ??:icon_confused: now if money wasnt a issue this would be no problem .. just put the shit in the shop .. but .. i have classes at acc college .. ive got work .. and i got to get my roomate to school too .. so .. im ****ed bascally .. but .. i can come up with the money .. i just need to find good quility cheap parts .. maine thing i need is a engine rebuild kit .. like for all the bearings .. piston rings .. gaskets all that .. ive found the full gasket kits .. but i cant find the block rebuild kits on any site .. all this just happend abbout 3 hours ago (its 3:30 am oct 19 here in NC) ..so idk if any of yall know any real good sites to get this stuff .. i know how to do all the work..iv got all the tools i need .. i just need the parts and odds and ends so if any of yall know some good sites . links .. places in the area . people to call .. anything .. anyhting would be a great help .. just reply to this .. or drop me a email at .. king.usmc91@yahoo.com .. and ide really apprecaite it .. sorry for the whoolle story ha but i figured ide give yall all i knew about the situation .. but agian i could really use the help .. so if you got anything let me know

If I was you I would find a lower mileage engine in a local J-yard (make sure you hear it run first) and swap her out.
A J-yard engine will run about $300, and is alot easier and cheaper to swap than rebuilding your engine.

I got a 3.0 truck for my mom with a blown PS head gasket and a cracked DS head. To repair the engine would've cost $1200- $2000. I did it for $450.

J-yard engine $300. Tune up, belts, hoses, oil, coolant, etc $150

On another note, I did almost the same with my 4.0.
I hydrolocked my engine and swapped in another one instead of replacing bent connecting rods, head gaskets, pistons and rings.

Good Luck:icon_thumby:

I went through fighting with a 2.9 and have decided that it's just not worth it. I had one cracked head when I got my choptop, swapped it out and the cylinders an all looked good. Not much time went by and then it wasn't running right... turns out the other head cracked. Put two newly used heads on and promptly cracked both (well, one cracked and trying to get the thing back to camp I lost the other). Bottom end still seemed solid, but I had got my hands on a junkyard motor, I took it out of a BII that nailed a pine tree. Clutch fan was FUBAR an the water pump didn't look all that great, but I cleaned it up a lil and dropped it in (I paid about a hundred bucks to strip the BII cuz I was friends with the junkyard owner). Dropped it in the BII and on down the road I went. Makes me wonder if for whatever reason some 2.9's are more prone to cracking heads than others. I sold an 89 BII Eddie Bauer with over 250K on the original motor an running like a champ...

+1 my old 2.9 finally sucked a valve and threw a rod at 350K but never blew a head gasket or cracked a head.....i wasnt quite nice to it all the time:shok:
