heater not working

I have a 2008 ford ranger. my heater only blows cold air. I need help
 
It could also be the heater valve. It is located under the hood in the two coolant lines going to the heater core (see pic below). Have someone turn the selector from hot to cold a couple of times (a few seconds between each change) while it is running and see if it moves. It is vacuum activated, so it could be a vacuum leak or a bad valve diaphragm causing it.
