Headunit randomly shuts down. Moving on to a Pioneer Premier DEH-P390MP.

But would it stay off for a random amount of time? I left my lights on the other day and almost couldn't get the truck started, the radio worked just fine.

It would if you had a bad wiring connection. Depending on what you used - solder, crimps, etc, this is where I'd look first. Butt crimps suck, my dad showed me how to solder wires together and I've never used them since. If they are simply electrical taped together, redo all of it :).

A bad alternator can also put out too much voltage, this would certainly shut down a HU if it had protection against such situations.

You could also hook it up to a known good charged battery (I keep a couple lying around) and see if it dies that way.

get a new harness for the unit, in the past ive seen the wires that go into the plug on the back of the deck get worn out, and cause the deck to randomally turn off, also probally replace the fuse on the back of the deck with a new one, cheap insurance.

best buy should carry the harness you need in the back(at least circuit city did before they went out of business)

:stop::nono: get em off ebay. there SO much cheaper there. best buy is gonna be 40 bucks, ebay is 15.00 with shipping for most plugs. i made that mistake once :buttkick: :nopityA:

damn was like $15 for the adapter harness and $15 for the stereo harness(which all he needs) when i bought it from circuit city about a year ago or so, didnt relieze the price difference was that much, bought it basically for a plug and go on my f-150 no soldier or anything (basically f150 to pioneer deh-p4000 harness time i got done)

Pioneer

I have a Pioneer in one of my trucks and its a DEH-360 I believe but it has the option where if I only have 2 speakers in the vehicle I can set there rear outputs as subwoofer so it will use the power from rear speakers and convert the sound to sub settings and adjustability

Update, HU works fine now. I'm so confused as to why. I punched it and it started working, but I broke something in the face plate so now it's harder than hell to take off.

Punching electronics fixes things. Go figure.
