91 Ranger........the headliner is gone and there is nothing up there but the spongy/foam stuff.......the spongy/foam stuff is not torn anywhere....wonder if an upholstery shop would cover it at a decent price?.....or is there a way I could do it myself...don't know if anybody has run into this problem and maybe has some advice...Thanks

The head liner droped because that spungy foam stuff is dry rotted and needs removed. I think auto zone may have the materal . I know they have the spray adheasive , If they don't have the materal trey one of the online classic car places, like classic ind.

the fabric comes with the foam on it and is glued to a foarm that is held in by the trim and dome light. The foam on the foarm that is left by the old head linner can be removed with a cheap soft brisal hair brush. If you order a head liner , make sure to maser from front to back and add a little ,

I usually charge $100 to do headliners. Are you in Ohio? lol

Its not too hard to do it yourself. My local Joanne fabrics carries a couple colors of headliners material. Otherwise, you can get headliner material and glue here: http://www.yourautotrim.com/headlinerkits.html

Just take all the plastic trim out of the truck, then the visors, handles, and hangers and the headliner will come out.

Unless the foam is still in perfect condition (ie: doesn't crumble and fall off when you touch it), then you will have to remove it.

Your headliner board is made of layered fiberglass, some of those layers may come off when you remove the foam. Don't worry too much about it, as long as you be carefull and try to keep the surface as smooth as possible it will look fine when its recovered.

You can get contact cement in aerosol cans (in the link I posted), you need to put a layer on both the headliner material and the headliner board, I usually do only half of the headliner at a time. Let the glue tack up for a minute (it shouldn't be wet), then just stick the material to the board and press it in, making sure to work all the wrinkles out, you can pull it back up and restick it if you have to.

After all that just put the headliner back in!
