Just read a CBC article stating that over 1/2 million Canadian tax records are shared with the IRS. Apparently the us taxes on citizenship, not residence, so you could be liable for taxes if you have dual citizenship. BUT in lots of cases no one bothers to inform the citizen of the exchange.
