My credo
Let the universe take you where it will !!!
So ill be putting the 91 expo. Cluster into my 83 once the 4.0 is in and I'm wondering if there is any way to wind it back to zero, so it can start anew.

Not legally. There are instructions online for setting the newer gauges that I used for an '01 Sport Trac cluster to set it to match my existing odometer. There may be something similar for the older ones (or the new ones could be close enough to show you how to proceed with the '92 cluster).

That's one heck of a process lol I'm thinking it just might not be worth it

Look around if there are any speedometer / gauge cluster repair places nearby in your state. They may be able to give you more state specific info.

Jeeze, just put it in, and then jack up the rear wheels and run it in Reverse :)

Odometers are made to be tamper resistant, but they are "assembled" so can be dis-assembled
But no, there is no "easy way" to reset to 00000
I would look for a broken cluster at wrecking yard of similar years and try it first on that one so you can just install in the working cluster
OR
Find out what you did wrong on that one so you can do the working one correctly

are you planning on swapping the whole dash or just the cluster? 91 explorer and 83 ranger dashes and clusters are completely different and do not interchange

Back in the old days you could actually take the speedometer cable off the transmission and put the end in a drill chuck, put the drill on reverse and the miles did go backwards...

Now do the other leg :)

good luck with that
It's actually not going to be too bad just have to trim 2 little tabs than make 2 sets of mount adaptors, the biggest deal will be a bezel, with all the warning light locations, but getting it in there I already have the wires done, just need a longer speedometer cable, and the mounts, have checked clearances and it fits nicely
