I'm looking at a 1999 Ranger with 2.5L, auto, step side, Axle code 87. The VIN indicates vehicle weight code Y, which I cannot find in the decoder. So either we misread the plate on the dash or this code is missing from the decoder. Help solvign this wouldbe appreciated. I plan to look again on Tuesday. Thanks!

VIN: 1FTYR10C5XTA59174

Code "Y"

Perhaps I should have been more specific. I already referenced the Tech Articles on this website, including the VIN decoder..... The google link didn't provide any new info.

I did not find a gross vehicle weight for Code Y. Sooooooo does anyone have any idea what GVW is associated with code Y? I will accept the possibility that we misread the VIN plate if there are no other alternatives. Thanks

The trusty shop manual shows that the "Y" is a 4001-5000 lb GVWR. Hope that right because a code of "C" shows the same thing.

Thanks Mac

I would have guessed that it would be on the lower end of the scale but was frustrated that this code did not show on any of the decoders. It would be nice to include this info on the tech page for VINs.

THANKS!!!!
