Granny m5od?

You can build anything of course :)

But would be expensive to make the new gear and counter shaft gear

There are Gear Splitters available for any transmission, manual or automatic
Underdrive is what you want, similar to 4Low in a 4WD transfer case, but maybe not quite that low, lol.

A underdrive gear splitter bolts to back of transmission, it changes your 5 speed to a 10 speed, like a 2 speed rear axle does in larger trucks
And you can shift between the 2 gears any time.
So start off in 1low, then shift underdrive to "normal" for regular 1st gear, then just drive as normal up to OD(5th).
Or you can go from 1L to 1, to 2L to 2, to 3L to 3, ect.....thru all 10 speeds
When pulling a load up a hill it can be nice to have the "in between" gear to keep RPMs up
Reverse would also have 2 speeds

Not cheap but modifying M5OD wouldn't be cheap either

Another option would be to find a transmission, 6-speed maybe, with "granny" ratio you like with OD which you need, lol
Then make a custom adapter for mounting to the 4.0l

Dual t-case setup ("doubler") would likely be much easier way to get lower gears if it's for off-road use.

There was a guy here who was making adapter plates to run a NP-435, or any of the old 4 speeds, really, behind a 4.0. I think the same could be done with a small block ZF 5 speed. The 4 speeds all have a very deep 1st gear, the ZF not quite as deep, but has OD.

i contacted rule breaker about these kits, he said he still had some stuff around. but i was wondering about adapting the zf5 since the np435 and zf5 will swap for one another, and i have a zf5. i wonder how much would have to be changed in the kit.

I suspect that other than the usual things like crossmembers, shifter, etc that would be different in any case - you'd be looking at mostly just changing clutch components if using a ZF in place of a 4 speed. ZF input shafts have a much higher spline count so you'd need to correct clutch disc - possibly a M5OD clutch from an F150? or even possibly just a complete Ranger clutch? I don't know.

Throwout bearing ID/OD vs fingers on pressure plate? and throw distance of slave cylinder
Starter?
Pilot bearing/bushing

Just some small things that came to mind, I think it can all be overcome fairly easily.

i seem to remember that rulebreakers kits had customs clutches, so he could reuse the stock starter. there is some info floating around about them.
