Granny low diff or gearbox?

I think the consensus is leaning toward getting a vehicle that matches the task at hand instead of forcing what you have, and isn’t working, to work

So we all agree that he needs to invest in my teleportation technology?

I’ve yet to need it, but my old 4.0 explorer with a manual lost allot of clutch material pulling an empty aluminum trailer for a 16’ Skiff out of a ramp. Only tried that once. That was a brand new, grooved, concrete ramp so traction wasn’t a problem.

Way back in the day on 2-1/2 ton grain trucks they had a two-speed rear axle, vacuum shifted. Was about the same as the difference between high & low range in a 4wd. Wish they made something like that on a smaller scale. Id use 4-low all the time with the hubs unlocked on my 93 ranger to move trailers.

My ford F900 had a 2 speed rear and 4 speed trans so 8 speed with a 460 gas engine. In low rear first trans it would pull down a house at idle. Couldn't shift the rear while moving though so you either did 30mph in 4th or stopped and could do 60. It was literally the biggest truck Ford made with no air brakes and under 26,000gvwr by 1 pound so no CDL.

Other than a 4x4 M5OD tail housing and output shaft, I'm pretty sure I have enough stuff to make a range box which would be very handy on the '97, then just get a one piece rear shaft from a '98 up 4x4 extended cab and bob's your uncle... some day...

I've seen a few of the Gear Vendors overdrive/underdrive units on a few rigs out here, mostly jeeps and tow vehicles. They bolt right on. Not cheap, but quite good. Seems something like their underdrive units is what you are looking for.

Ok, now who is Steve???

Ok, now who is Steve???
Steve and Bob are cousins and Bob is your uncle. So foes that make Steve your uncle too? Or is he another cousin to you?

Sounds like the family tree could use some pruning.

As long as you aren't your own grandpa, I imagine things could be worse... lol, that's getting toward the family stick...

Wait, I thought Bob was the oil guy...

Bob spelled backwards is boB.
