Greetings all,
My name is Eric and I'm from central Iowa.
I've owned a 94 Ranger 2.3 XLT 2wd manual for over 10 years and it it currently has 177k miles. It's ready for a clutch and ball joint, and got hit in a DUI hit and run, and has suffered the wrath and rust of midwestern winters, but solders on. It's the cockroach of the road. But that's not why I'm here.
My Grandfather recently decided it was time to give up his second vehicle. Maybe that's not accurate. My Grandfather got tired of my Grandmother saying "You never drive it, you should get rid of it!" is probably more accurate.
I ended up at the right place at the right time and now own a 87 Ranger 2.9 XLT 2wd, SCab, auto with 80K original miles. My grandfather bought it used in 1991 with 68k miles and always kept it garaged. I thought 12k miles in 20+ years was exceptional until I found a service receipt that indicated it had 78K in 2002, which means it's traveled 2k miles in the last 10 years.
My 94 has never given me any trouble, nothing I couldn't figure out for myself, but this 2.9 that hasn't been run very much has some unique things going on, that I've been searching this site for help on.
I do most all my own work (except exhaust) and between myself and my wife we own 8 vehicles, 7 Fords and 1 Chevy. 7 run, and one needs a new engine. (you can guess which one needs an engine). 4 of them are Fords 1987 or older now.
I'll get some pics of the 87 Ranger and post them up over the holiday.
Cheers!
