Got stuck and now it squeaks! look at this picture and tell me what you think

Well I went for a friday river bed cruise and ended up getting stuck in half sand half water. I had to leave my car there for a couple hours before I finally could get it towed out. In this time the sand gradually built up and buried the wheels. Once I got it out, i heard a squeaking scraping noise when the wheels go around.

Could anyone help me diagnose the noise? I rinsed all the sand i could from the undercarriage and especially from every angle i could on the wheels without taking them off. I'm thinking there is sand stuck in my rotors and break pads but breaking doesn't seem to effect the noise very much if at all. could it be my wheel bearings?

i say pull all the wheels, clean all the brakes, repack your wheel bearings.... oh wait, you have sealed unit bearings, so forget that. and replace the oil in the axles.

if it keeps up, you may have toasted a bearing. they aren't cheap

I am thinking you got your drum brakes filled with sand.

Remove your rear tires, remove drum brakes, take a look at whats in there, clean as needed and put it back together.

my rotors always get rocks stuck between the rotor and dust shield. Next time i have the front brakes apart, those shields are coming off!

seems like rocks would put some pretty serious scratches in the rotor.

They noise seems like it went away. If not its really faint.

Not really. Brakes are far more durable than you give them credit for. Steel is also much stronger than most types of rock out there.

actually the rotor is a helluva lot harder than the rocks i've come across. No damage. It just squeals like hell!

I will take pictures of my rear shoes that have less than 1500 miles on them next time I have my brakes apart. Not cleaning them after wheeling in sand/pea gravel took 20-30k of life out of them.

so it'd be a good idea for me to take mine apart and clean them. did yours make gnarly squeaks from the sand?

Probably sand in the brakes... Take them apart and clean them. Usually the squeak goes away quickly on its own (at least for me)
