Got my Explorer stuck.....

Had an old guy tell me once buy a winch u may only use it once but the time you use it you will be glad u have it.

I had a old guy tell me when by yourself, to drive as far as you can in two wheel drive and save 4x4 for getting out the way you came in.

Correct, except where I live for some reason I find a lot of people's first choice is dropping into 4Lo, so when they're burried to their hood I just look at them and say well your 4WD certainly works great you managed to dig yourself 4 holes trying to get back out of your mess.

I need to find a picture of me trying to pull out a Range Rover a couple years ago out of a creek bed. Kind of the same thing that happened with this explorer. Except I got out of the truck and walked across this area the truck was sitting there just fine, didn't think anything of it because the ground was dry. Got out the tow strap hooked up and no sooner got the slack out of the strap and the truck sunk like a rock. I wasn't exactly very happy as it was my Ford F-250 heavy ass truck to begin with, there's no digging this out its sitting on the diffs. So the guy in the range rover starts calling around for a wrecker which is about 4 hours away (we were kind of in the middle of BFE). I'm kind of watching the road trying to catch someone driving by with a full size truck to maybe help get me out at least (at this point I could care less about the dumb ass in the range rover who had tried to cross the muddy ass creek which I couldn't even walk through without losing a shoe). I spot this white dodge truck heading down the trail towards us, as it gets closer I see it has US Government plates on it, My first thought is oh shit where are we at, is this an off limits area. Guy was a fish/game warden really nice guy, he stops and asks if we would like him to pull us out, I hesitate as I look at his truck and think its a government truck I know he probably shouldn't be doing this with government property. Then I realize he's got the Dodge Ram Power Wagon with a winch on it. Kind of changed my mind, said sure if you want to give it a try. He pulled out my truck then ran the cable out farther and pulled out the range rover. Man I want this guy's job, he drives around trails and clears trails most of the day. Talked with him for a while and we were all on our way. Its great to run across forest service and fish/game officers that are really cool. He did say he's been down in that spot many times pulling people out because it looks dry down there but its only like a couple inches of dry crusty dirt but under that its nothing but swampy marshy muck.
