I think I have all the pieces I need to do it (89 5.0 T5, the special input shaft made specifically for a v8 T5/ 2.3 crankshaft, an 87-88 TC bellhousing and clutch fork, TC clutch, TC slave cylinder and plastic line to the master cylinder), my only question is I'm pulling a TK5 out and putting in the T5..... I've heard I can use an 88-92 driveshaft from a standard cab truck with the Mazda trans in it with no modifications, cuz the T5 and the Mazda trans are approximately the same length..... Other than having an adapter plate made for the trans mount, I'm ready to go!!!!! Anything I might be overlooking before I dive into this project????:icon_welder:

Anybody got any answers for me???? I'm just kinda curious cuz I use the truck for getting back and forth to work til the girlfriend gets her BMW fixed......

I'm just curious what this is? I've seen several 2.3 cylinder Mustang T5's used in 5.0 Mustangs, and they didn't require a special input shaft. In fact, just in March I helped my buddy find a 2.3 T5 for his 49 Ford which is using all 5.0 Mustang drivetrain.

Oops!!! Got a little ahead of myself while typing..... input shaft BUSHING!!! A company called Rapido Group makes it, cost is $38.50 (plus shipping to wherever you may be), and you don't have to have the input shaft milled if you're using a V8 T5 with a 2.3L.....

Ok. That makes sense. I thought you were possibly talking about a steel throwout bearing retainer. I highly recommend getting one of it still has the OEM aluminum piece.

Yep, got one of those as well..... I only wanna do this transmission one time!!!!:3gears:

What shifter are you going to use? I have a Hurst base and a cut factory handle on my Mustang (aluminum bushings instead of factory rubber too). I love it, and it promotes longevity too. The factory shifters suck!

At one point in time, Saleen sold the base only for 85 bucks. That's where I got mine.

Yep, got a Hurst shifter plate, shifter arm and handle with the trans when I bought it.... Just can't wait to put all this stuff in!!!

87 2.3 mustang motor & t5 tranny

in my 87 std cab and long bed I used turbo t-bird bell housing ranger hyd line t-bird slave cyl & arm mustang TO bearing mustang input shaft on ranger drive shaft o'reillys part #353 for the u joint and on cross member I cut it on both sides of the mounting holes on front side and bent it up so I had to re drill holes .The tranny bolts were just touching the front of the cross member so i spray painted it lightly "b4 cutting" to show were holes had to be drilled works GREAT I just reversed the mustang shifter handle to clear the seat.:icon_welder:
