Not sure if this is the right place to post this...

So...my dad passed away about 2 3/4 years ago and his 00 Ranger wasn't started until about 3 or four months ago when I first started working on it. I had to replace the fuel pump and strainer. It still runs, but will require a fair amount of work to get it roadworthy again. I'm hoping to sell my 06 Ranger, use the funds to get it rolling again and (barring a feud between certain people) take ownership of it.

When I replaced the fuel pump and strainer I noticed the gas was cloudy and more colored than usual. Now this gas is at least 3 years old and it is still combustible. No Sta-bil or anything like that was added to it to preserve the gas when my dad passed away. I did add some water remover just in case when I started working on it though. Is the gas still good or should I drain the tank and flush it out? I'm leaning toward the latter but if I can get away with not doing it then it'll be on the road faster.

What do y'all think?

I say drop the tank and drain it and flush it, change fuel filter and if you can blow out the fuel lines. Better to do it now then be on the road and run into running problems. Plus it's 3 year old gas.

Sounds like the best plan. How do I blow out the fuel lines?

Drop the tank and clean it out. Run a tank or two and then change the fuel filter.

Is there something specific (water, etc) that I should use?

I had originally had taken the bed off far enough to access the tank so I could change the fuel pump. I had left the bed undone for a LONG time (mostly out of laziness), but finally put it back on and secured it with the bolts. My nephew and I put the tailgate, lights, bedliner and bumper back on. It was a beast in today's heat to do but it'll be worth it in the end.

Future plans? Gonna need wheels and tires, probably a 3" lowering kit, and other fun stuff TBD.

Good Project. Hold on to Memories for as long as possible.

Keep us up to date. And no on the water to rinse out the fuel tank. It's hard to get it all out of the tank once it's in there. Just use a gallon of gas and roll the tank from side to side and then dump it back in the can for disposal or use in old lawn equipment.

I'm not very adept at using forums so this may be a funny question...

Do I show the progress here in this thread or is there a specific build thread?

Given the topic leads people to read/reply, I'd make one post for each 'topic' to be discusses or clarified.
I'd use the gas in the lawn mower if it still is burnable. You can dilute it with fresh fuel, and eventually use it up. An alternative is to drain it, and filter it, and mix with some fresh for use. If it will clarify by filtration, then it should be ok. Any water would be at the bottom of the tank.
IF it smells very bad, don't bother. A vented gas tank that has fuel in it will vent off the smaller, lighter hydrocarbons, leaving behind a very smelly mess. I have some from a generator I acuired that had problems. Remaining fuel was drained, but I won't mix it with anything. If yours smells like fuel, it is likely fine to be used. IMO.

Well, I sold my 06 Ranger today. Once the check clears I'll start working on it.

This is my late father's truck. 2000 Ranger XLT 2.5L 4x2 MT. I'm going to have to get used to calling it my truck.

First mod? Cleaning it. [emoji1]

Oh and yes...it is on jack stands. Most of the tires are dry rotted.

That's a good looking truck with lots of potential. He had good taste going with the 2.5 and 5 speed transmission.

At one point he hit a deer on the way home and killed the front end. I've been told (don't really know if it's true) that the body shop put a F-150 bumper on it.
