hope it's the right forum. i have a gas line leak out of the tank on the top. my tank straps are in really rough shape on my 92 ext 3ltr auto. i believe it is the line because the fuel pump will make the gas pour out and stops when turned off. also my tanks is full. it is the long and the larger tank. the seller had put in a new tank i believe and one side of the strap is bale wired as is. also the shaft has to be dropped i've read. does the bed only have those 6 bolts and rear light harness to re and re? is the tank opening readily accessible or is there a frame member preventing direct access? i am having to work in a driveway and don't need anymore headache than i have now. i have read that the bed removal is easy. i have an electric impact and just need torx fitting. please pass on the benifit of experience's. thanks joe.

Add the 3 filler neck screws to the 6 T-55(?) bed bolts and the tail light harness.

I recommend a long breaker bar.

My 93's bed bolts LAUGHED at a pneumatic impact wrench that i've used in the past to break CV shaft nuts loose. I had to use the breaker bar for every blessed turn of every one of those bed bolts, and I soaked them repeatedly with teh PB Blaster.

Bed off gives perfect access for what you need to do. You could even prop it if you don't have a helper to lift it all the way off.

Definitely recommend pulling the bed, much easier than dropping the tank. 6 bed bolts, a tail light harness and 3 filler neck screws and it lifts right off. Get a buddy to help pick it up and set it down off the truck, only takes 2 people. Had to pull mine a total of 3 times for a fuel filler neck problem.

Done it both ways; I definitely prefer taking the bed off, too.

pull the bed,id rather be standing up cussing the bed bolts than under the truck with a face full of dirt.............cussing.

I was debating same thing because I have some problem with my filler tube I think a blockage, and besides I can then do work on the bed

I DEFINITELY recommend taking off the bed. I'm currently working on a friend's 92 2wd, and I made the mistake of pulling the tank down - on these compact trucks it is a real pain. Now I've got issues with the fuel pump connector and instead of dropping the tank again, I'm going for the bed. I'm concerned about the bed bolts, but I'm bringing a grinder just in case.

Call me lazy but when you take the bed off set it on 2 or 3 saw horses. Much easier to lift back on the frame that way.

i would recommend removing the bed, done it both ways, removing the bed is much easier.if the bolts break off you cand grind the heads off and remove the bed.buy new bolts and tabs from ford or auto parts store. not that expensive.
