Full size axel swap 78 d44 and 9" SAS in 86 B2

okay so i figured out my front drive shaft it looks like ill have to shorten it by and inch or more
but my rear driveshaft is still giving me problems
the ujoint in the old B2 drive shaft is 3"
and the yoke on the 9" is 3.5" what should i steal a drive shaft from that has 3.5" ujoints
i realize ill probably have to shorten or lengthen again

Just swap the slip yoke part of the driveshaft for one with the right size yoke...

I recommend always going with the larger U-joints. I believe they're 1310's. Iirc all f-150', f-250's should have the 1310 U-joint. So figure out how long it needs to be then find a short bed and compare. If it's too short go to a long bed and have it shortened. It's usually around $75 to get one shortened and balanced.

hmm my rear joint style shaft is not a slip style although i think i used to have one on a b2 i scrapped a while back bummer :[
ill have to scour the junkyards and see what i can come up with

do explorers have the larger 1310 u joints?
because i also need the smaller 4bolt pattern flange(rear output of t-case),my b2 drive shaft has the smaller version
i can't remember if my explorer had a yoke or flange on the back of the tcase
about how much slip should i allow in the front and rear drivehshafts with 6inches+ of lift

btw going to take some pics today so you guys can see my progress this far

Okay here are some pics sorry they're not the best but they're proof I'm working on it.

lift blocks with bump stop tabs and ubolts salvaged from a f150
Photoon9-9-14at709PM.jpg

Got the original leaf perches ground off the 9" and got the housing cleaned up with a knotted wire wheel and primered for now, as well as new wheel cylinders and rear brake shoes and springs.

just got to clean up the center section yet but she's getting there
Photoon9-9-14at706PM.jpg

so i lied my B2 joint style shaft is a slip yoke, so where should i look for a slip yoke that will match my b2 shaft but have a 1310 u joint?
Photoon9-9-14at707PM.jpg

picture of spring bow, i might have to move the front axle ahead an inch or so yet
Photoon9-9-14at702PM2.jpg

got the knuckles off and I'm ready to get them reamed for the 1ton GM steering along with installing new ball joints
can't get my track bar mounted until I'm finished with the steering linkages

what have you guys done for your tranny mount using the 78-79 drop brackets? i need some inspiration
Photoon9-9-14at703PM3.jpg

heres my custom upper coil retainers i cut the original sway bar mounting plate in half and bolted it through the spring with a plate holding it on top of the bucket

Its been storming all day, and I'm not making any progress.. cons of working in the driveway.

Well today I picked up 7' of 1 1/4" OD x .219" wall DOM tubing for 70$
Now i just have to find someone to thread it with 7/8-18LH and RH taps
I called a couple machine shops today to see if they could ream my knuckles for the GM TRE's and didn't have any luck what so ever, So I talked to my dad and he referred me to one of his hot rod buddies, who said he'd charge me 10$ per hole reamed and i need 4 so 40$ to ream my knuckles and pitman arm is not a bad deal at all.
but i have to wait till monday to get that done,
I also pressed new ball joints in one knuckle today, surprisingly they didn't give me that much trouble.
Tom morning I'm going to the junkyard to get my f150 leaf springs, and i also got to grab a knuckle for a 96 dodge ram 1500 4x4 just bought it for my mom for 600$ last week
but the idiot that worked on it before me never seated the lower ball joint causing it to move around and wear out the taper on the bottom of the knuckle, so i also installed new upper and lower ball joints on that today.
its coming together after i get my steering done i can work on my trac bar, and mount, i think I'm going to end up fabbing a custom one just haven't figured out how i want to do that yet.

Today was a semi productive day

I went to the Pick a Part yard and got my f150 Leaf springs with shackles they are a 3 leaf pack i believe it was 55$ for the pair

I also snagged a set of warn lockout hubs for the d44, witch came with 2 Gently used rotors and Hubs complete with bearings from a F150 D44 TTB I believe those were 20$ a piece

I also snagged the steering knuckle for the dodge 1500 and buttoned that back up with two new ball joints. So now my moms truck is back in working order.

I got both my Knuckles for the HP D44 Cleaned up with a wire wheel, new ball joints pressed in and Primed with self etching primer they're looking nice, now they're just waiting for monday to get reamed.

Tomorrow I'm going to try and get my New 2 me F150 leafs in.

Well I was at the pick a part yard I was looking for the slip off part of the yoke for my rear drive shaft that has a 1310 u joint to connect to the 9" yoke.

I believe i may of found my missing piece of the puzzle it was on a Pre 95 F150 4x4 on the front drive shaft

So does any one know off hand if the front yoke on that tcase is 1310? if so i might of found the last part so i can get drive shafts made up.

Well thats it for today maybe ill get some more pics tom.

Dang you made pretty good progress! Good to hear you're takin care of your mother!
