No power to the pump unless I jump a fused 12v to it. Tried everything, must be a wire.

If I were to run power to(rig) it, where's the best place to tap into 12v ? What amp fuse ?

Fuel pump relay

Replaced fuel pump (in tank) and it doesn't run. I had 12v @ inertia switch (orange wire) but jumping this to the new pump wouldn't make it run. When I jumped from the fuse box, it WOULD run. (Jumping 12v directly from the battery wouldn't make the old pump run so I knew it was bad.)

Not understanding what would cause the pump and the relay to crap out at the same time. Maybe I fried the relay while testing ? Anyhow....it's fixed ! ! !

Power for fuel pump(s) runs like this:

Battery-----Fuel pump fuse--------fuel pump relay--------inertia switch-------fuel pump(s)

not sure if the '87 had 2 fuel pumps?

Here is the wiring diagram for 2.9l

If it has 2 fuel pumps there will be a splice near the high pressure pump in the frame rail, this factory splice can fail over time causing no power at one of the pumps.
