Front Shock Bolt sheared - HELP

25 dollar shock replacement turns into a headache. Freaking bottom bolt snapped. I used PBBlaster, but obviously not heat. Truck is in my driveway..... What are my options here?

Spring removal is under alot of stress correct? Need special tools? I do not have these.

Options people.... please.

Parts stores should have a replacement for that. It's a HELP! item.
Dorman Help! - Shock Bolt Kit Part # 31001

I haven't used one but it doesn't look too hard to figure out..

Edit: Oh, springs can be removed without special tools, but for this you don't need to.
 
Can you get a pry bar to get the shock off the broken stud? The stud slips through the shock and is not threaded on. If not then drill it out. After that you'll have to replace the stud.
 
ASsuming I can get the rusted / frozen nuts on the top of the shock off, I am sure the shock will come off. The sheared stud on the other hand, is not a "replaceable" stud it appears.

Do I simply cut it off with an angle grinder then use carbide bits to drill it out to a size that will fit the replacement stud?

Backside of that control arm does NOT have a nut on it.

Look for the part SenorNoob suggested in the help section to replace stud.

Before drilling a hole through the frame I'd get the fix-it part to see how it attaches.

Should be able to just use high speed steel drill bit if it's sharp. Replacement bolt in kit will probably be grade 8. Don't use cheap grade 5.

Seems to be a lot of internet threads on this. Do a Goggle.
 
Stud hada bigger collar on it right next to the frame, took an angle grinder cut-off wheel to it.

Read some threads that said we should be able to just cut it off and use a PUNCH to pop it back thru, but Im not having much luck trying to punch it back thru at all.

You can see little dents, but nothing of note for progress. Back to the shop for some harder drill bits I think.

You just need to drill a hole with what's there. No need to grind off the collar. Trouble I see now is you have lost the proper hole position to remount the shock.

Where would your bolt hole center be?
 
i drilled several smaller holes, it centered out ok and the shock mounted without issue.

Thanks all, /salute. Now off for a quick test drive and to do the other side.
