HELP!!!!!! my 91 ranger 4x4 has broken the front upper shock mount id like to put a new one on it but cant seem to locate one this is my daily driver so i have to get it fixed quickly

Replacements aren't really out there. You need to find one in the junk yard.

Grind the rivets, get it out, and then grade 8 bolts to put it on.

I got mine from a dealer a couple years ago. Don't know if they're still available or not.

Dude, how do you break a shock mount?

Grinding out the rivets is always a pain, after finding another shock mount. I have mine in my garage right now because of the SAS.

The other alternative is to get a qualified welder to melt that shit back together. That's what I would do if I were in your position (also, depending on how the shear occurred).

I don't think the ones on my Ranger have much longer to live, the rust is getting them.

I know we looked for some OE ones here a while ago and didn't find any, but the F-150 ones are out there.

I saw several Rangers in the junkyard or even for sale that were made between 93 and 97 and this was a common thing...the ones for sale were obviously parts trucks...the ones in the jy were there because the owner didn't want to go there to repair.

My vote is to post pictures of the damage...really hard to determine what needs to be done or whether there is other damage that would be more important...frame rot can be fatal if not taken care of...

My moms '92 did the same thing... Only hers ripped the brake hose in half when it broke. I had to cut the replacement off a parts BII I had.

I say it's time for aftermarket coil buckets or f250 towers...

Ah, yea. Dang, I always forget about rust.

The F-150 / F-250 shock towers are a good choice if you can find them in good shape.

Well, it Izzu returns to the thread, he can have mine.

Do broken shock/spring towers happen frequently? What do some people do to combat that? Do people rinse off the salt with fresh water as preventative maintenance?

He'd have to get new springs if he used the f150 buckets, no?

He can adapt them.

Often times, people get F-150 springs and bend the Ranger tower tabs to accept the slightly larger diameter coils.
