Hey guys, first off this is still my 87 ford ranger
: 2.9
: 4 speed with overdrive

clutch has always engaged at the top, started slipping so got a NEW clutch kit.
installed at my school with help of my teacher, all was done right, clutch engages good and strong no slipping now, but still engages at the very top, its a wet clutch, we bled it after new clutch install.
is there any way to add free play so it engages closer to the floor? its drivable right now but just not as easy taking off from a start as all my friends cars wich engage close to the floor. is there something could be wrong with it? old and new clutch are doing it so i dont think its the clutch disk wich is a new one not a refurbished.
thanks guys for any info, me and my teacher are both at a loss on it.

No, it's a hydraulic clutch, the old :"engages right off the floor" was desireable when manually adjusted mechanical linkages were used.

The part you are supposed to be paying attention to is the condition of the hydraulics and how quickly the hydraulic system disengages the clutch.

IF it must be pushed further than an inch and a half it indicates air in the system.

You'll get used to it.

BTW, not NEEDING to push the pedal all the way to the floor means you can shift much more quickly.

Thanks Allan.

So theres nothing wrong, thats good. im just used to clutches to start engaging as soon as you start letting the pedal up.
Thanks man.
