Fraser/Jasper don't certify my mechanic of choice--where else can I buy a reman engine

Hello friends. We are now planning to move across the country to care for a loved one. So I am going to bite the bullet and put a reman engine in my 1997 Ford Ranger 4.0.

I have found a mechanic/shop I trust. But I don't see that this shop is on the certified installer list with Fraser or Jasper. I want to buy a Fraser reman but I won't change mechanics for Fraser. So advice please? What other reputable reman engine can I buy for my mechanic?

Also, this is probably the last time you will be using your mechanic, might as well use one the engine supplier recommends.

Well I'm really having a hard time trusting mechanics. This shop had good reviews and were very nice on the phone And quoted me a good price. I will ask who they get remans from. Perhaps they are on the Fraser or Jasper list and it did not pop up for some reason . We are moving across the country so we can't go back to this specific mechanic

No, I haven't had a chance to ask this shop yet. Just spoke with the secretary and she said I have to order the engine.

It might be best to take your truck to this "New Mechanic" and have him go over it like a pre-purchase inspection
Check the brakes, suspension, fluids/oils, frame for rust, and anything else

To see if your truck is even worth putting an engine in it.

Yes. They did say to bring it in so they can look at it. I will ask his advice. We have already replaced suspension parts, battery, alternator, starter, speedometer sensor, 4wd part and sensor, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator. The wiring looks decent. I think the rust amount is okay. Could be better. Could be worse. I hate to take a total loss but I will ask his opinion. Thank you

Okay, so I've changed my mind. I will go with a Jasper installer. I've heard good things about Jasper. I plan to replace engine mounts if needed; water pump if needed and spray rust inhibitor on rusty engine bay walls. Whatever I can do while we have the engine pulled. And replace rear main seal.

Jasper reman engines all come with an install kit... part of their warranty.

Plugs... wires... fan belt... water pump... radiator hoses... air filter... etc...

Rear main is surely part of the long block.

Thank you. Now I'm starting to worry about when the transmission goes out. It is okay now but kinda hard to move between the gears. If it goes out will it break my Jasper engine? So much to worry about. I don't have money to throw away. I hope I'm doing the right thing rebuilding this truck

Transmission usually just quit pulling when they go out. It's pretty rare for one to lock up. Especially in away that could damage the engine. I've never heard of it outside of drag racing.

My experience with Jasper hasn't been good and they were a pain to work with on warranty repairs. We sold only Ford remans but my friend bought a used F150 with a Jasper engine that leaked everywhere and we fixed it for him using Ford gaskets so we could warranty the repair.
Hopefully you have good luck and my experience was a one off.
The mechanic may not be on Jasper's list because he won't discount his labor to do their warranty repairs, it doesn't mean he's not qualified.
