I just bought my 89 last week & while trying to fix an exhaust leak I noticed a heavy duty C channel bolted inside the frame. Just in front of the rear spring perches it looks as if a new frame has been grafted in (both sides). Straight cut, welded and this HD plate bolted in. If this was just a trail truck I wouldn't care, but this is my daily driver.
I tried to load a pic, but it says it is an invalid file.:dunno:

well....your link says I am not permitted to see that page.....

you cannot directly link photos from your puter.....open a photobucket.com account and link it up from there.....

as for the frame fix.....what you have described is perfectly safe....

in fact that is how all big trucks frames are repaired, lengthened, shortened, etc...etc...

a grafted frame that has been properly welded with a "fish plate" ( the heavy c channel or plate ) added is fine.....

I guess you need to be a friend of mine on FBook to see the pic.
It has some welds but is mostly bolted. Seems to be holding OK, just makes me nervous since I didn't do it and don't know who did.

Just be sure to keep a close eye on that thing. I wouldn't trust it.
