Ok now I in a real quandry, I decided to black out my truck completly by removing the FX4 decals(this went well no problems). Then I proceded to remove my fender badges and after doing the passenger side, I found out that for some dumb ass reason, ford has put a huge hole behind the badges. WTF!!!!!! Now I'm going to have to go buy one maybe two new badges and just paint them black. Anyone know why they did this, and do I have any other alternative to cover/fix the hole?????

Are they the holes used to align the badge? If so, it's not a Ford thing, it's a car industry thing.

EDIT: And if you think that's bad, try taking the chrome off a car from the 50's.

Rangers have been that way since they were introduced in '83. When I put new fenders on and painted my '84, I welded the holes shut and smoothed it out with a little body filler. There is really no easy way to do it.

There are the two tiny holes for the badge as expected (i guess) but in the middle between the two small holes is a larger one about 1/2" in diameter. WTF is THAT FOR????

Speed holes?????????

I guess it's there to make people ask questions...... I've never seen it used for anything.

it's probably relevant to the handling or installation or the stamping of the panel.

i'd bet some kind of machine grabs the fender there.

So I guess I'll just paint and replace them, not going to do any welding or anything else major to cover them

Might look for some other kind of badge to put there maybe 4.0L or something

Get some LEDs and wire them up through that hole.

You'd have some pimping ranger decals.

Yea. I'm trying to get ahold of the f-250 badges that have the "F-250" clear with a green LED behind it.

Edit: like this.

Many newer cars are putting Signal blinkers in that location, the Mini Cooper for example.

Why? The Ranger trim package I thought was only on the F-150, and that was over 20 years ago, so the dates won't even match!

Who makes those? That is neat. :icon_thumby:

The Mazda Tribute (Mazda Escape) has them too.

I can just barely see dad's F-350 Ranger from where I am sitting right now. BTW it is actually 30 years, they quit making them before they started making the actual Ranger (which went into production for 1982 as a 1983 model)

I meant it as i'm am looking for a set for my diesel. It would be cool to have them on a Ranger. Maybe the "RANGER" being lit with a blacklight would be cool.

Recon Lighting did but they don't make them anymore. They claim they are going to make them again BUT they said that over a year ago.

I ran into that too when I was blacking out my Ranger. My first thought was that I didn't want to have to deal with patching the hole, painting it and trying to get it blended in and all, so my next thought was an led backlit badge....

I started with making step panels that were going to be backlit too, got one panel done and then when some old lady ran me down, it got broken. Never got around to finishing the other and starting on the badges. Cutting it all out with a dremel was rather time consuming and messy. I think the way to do it would be with a CNC machine. Had a guy who was going to cut me a set but it never happened.

could it be they might have been making a light like this for it?

the small circle by the mirror.

Just paint the ones you have and use emblem glue and put them back on instead of new emblems (if that's what you're going to do)
