Hi Guys, I been quietly lurking for years tryin to keep my everyday work truck '90 Ranger 2.9L auto 4wd w/200k miles going ....Still goin strong except for the quart of tranny fluid on my driveway everyday... in my search for a trans, i came upon a Nice '97 Explorer auto 4.0L 4wd for cheap.... My Question - Can the Entire Engine/Trans/Transfer Case/wiring/whatever FIT, without Major Modifications ? I Do know Alot about mechanics, but I'm a Total Nissan Guy (ever since my 1970 240z, lol), SORRY... THX Alot.... P.S, I'm not afraid to Rebuild the A4LD, i'm afraid of the 30 year old Exaust bolts snappin everywhere, i was'nt plannin to rebuild the engine just yet

Is it the 160hp OHV 4.0 or the 207hp SOHC? Either can work if you're willing to do the wiring to make the ODB2 equipment work in an EEC-IV environment, but I think from memory that the SOHC is a little tougher fit. It's also messy with timing chain components so you'd want to go over all of those with the engine out.

The SOHC is a total PITA. It tries to occupy some of the space the blower box wants, and there isn't a lot of making them play nice together. If it wasn't for that it would go in nicely and bolt up.
