My 88 ranger the fm 146 tranny going. I have some FM 145 trannys from a 86.Could i switch them if i use the 146 bellhousing a drifternt drive shaft and shifter and move the tramission mounts? Would this work?

Yea, I believe the only different is that the 145 is about 2 inches shorter.

I do not mean to hijack the thread but I am doing the opposite. I am putting a FM146 into a Fm145 truck. MY question......"What is the length from bell housing mounting flange to transmission rubber mount for the two different trannies? Are they the same or different?
