First off, I've been reading the forum for quite a while. Thank you for all the great info. I finally made the first change to my 2006 Ranger XLT. 4.0. I purchased a Flowmaster Delta 40 2.25 in 2.25 out, offset in, offset out (part number 942443). I cannot speak for other years or models but mine had a 2 inch pipe going into the stock muffler and a 2.25 inch pipe coming out. I purchased a 2.25 OD to 2 inch ID reducer (along with two 2.25 inch clamps and one 2.125 inch clamp). Anyway, cutting the stock pipes into the stock muffler off right at the welds with the muffler allowed me to use the Flowmaster and 1 reducer without any extra pipe needed ( the stock muffler is longer). I was also able to cut the old hanger off the muffler and reuse it with a clamp hanger. I DO like the way it sounds.

I'm not saying any of the above is the right or best way to do it. I was mostly suprised to find 2.25 inch pipe from the stock muffler back.

Flares, 32" Tires, and 15" wheels (i have stock 16s...so we'll see how this goes) are on the way, then i crank the t-bars. Still want K&N and FXII shifter.

Good job Todd, that's the way to do it while using the
existing pipes.:icon_thumby:

Your pipe sizes are exactly the same as mine, and I was
surprised at the stock 2" intermediate pipe size. (That's the
OD size, so the ID is more like 1 3/4 or thereabouts.):icon_surprised:
Now I slept through flow thermodynamics class, so I'm no
expert, but it seems that Ford has these pipe sizes reversed;
The intermediate pipe should be 2 1/4 with the tailpipe at 2"
to get better exhaust flow.......?

That's just too small IMO, for the higher rev range of the 3.0.
Mine runs much better with the Dynomax cat-back system,
which has a 2 1/2 inch intermediate pipe (along with 2 1/2"
tailpipe).

scratch the k&n. Just yanked the silencer. much better sound.
