flex fan instead of stock fan

88mudder, unless they have drastically changed the flex fans from years ago, the fan should only thin out as the rpms increase, IE flex. At low rpm (and at rest) the curve of the fan is most dramatic, if it clears everything when turned by hand it should be fine at idle, and at high revs the blades flex to decrease drag, ie decrease parasitic loss. The only reason that it would make contact is if it the pump shaft is bent or ocsillates due to bad pump bearings, etc.......:dunno:
At least thats the way the used to work.......:icon_confused:

Or...you have a flex fan that's supposed to be spinning the other way. Not all water pumps spin the same direction. The fan blades would get more angle as the rpm increased. I've seen it happen.

if your running a sbf or sbc theres enough room for mechanical or electric cooling if your not running ac.

aod's are pretty easy to work with too, didnt know they were becomming a serious problem.

i went thru many combinations in my personal rigs and too many various setups over the years with others projects. flex fans big enough for hot daily driving and wheelin are hard on belts and waterpumps.

so it being simple and reliable in hi performance applications doesnt wash with me at all. the killer setup was a mark 7 fan. but e fans that supposedly dont make a difference, really make a difference at the track.

a properly installed e fan is the most efficient and reliable air moving part of the cooling system available in any hi peformance vehicle.

that was what i was thinking....that and the wrong spacer.

if there isnt eough room for a flex fan, then you obviously have to move the engine and radiator.

more good info :icon_hornsup:
