So I pulled my front differential to inspect the ring gear and pinion because of a bad grinding noise.Well long story short, there wasn't a thing bad in the front differential. So i have it narrowed down to the transfer case. Anyway,I put the truck all back together yesterday and today while driving it for the first time, I put it in 4x4 just to see if it still made the grinding noise and it did.So I parked it,and a couple hours later, I got into it to head home, and the 4x4 and 4 low lights keep flashing on and off. They will flash 6 times, and then stop, and a couple mins later it will do it again. I pulled off the road and tried to switch the switch to 4x4 high and 4 low,but it did nothing, the switch didn't click or the shift motor didn't make the clunking noise it usually makes, and the lights didn't come on. Any idea what it could be? Could it be my shift motor is bad? OH btw this is on a 1995 ford ranger.

Had basically the same issue happen to me yesterday. Locked my new manual hubs in while the truck was warming up and I was cleaning the snow off of the windows. Took off and went to engage 4 HI and nothing.......next thing I know the lights are flashing 6 times about every 3 minutes. Unlock the hubs, relock the hubs, try to engage 4 HI, nothing....WTH? This just worked 3 days ago after I put these new hubs in!! I ended up disconnecting the Neg side of the battery for a few minutes and then hooked it back up. 4 HI and Low worked flawlessly after that. Don't know if that was the right thing to do, but it worked.
On a side note, I had an ABS code get thrown today. C1102 and B1317. After stopping at O'Reilly and getting the codes pulled, the truck wouldn't start! Guess I didn't get the neg terminal tight enough yesterday and it was just loose enough after stopping that it wouldn't start........I'm wondering if maybe that could have contributed to the B1317 code, and C1102 is what gave me trouble with the flashing lights the day before.....

Turns out it was my dome light fuse was blown.Fixed the blown fuse, and it fixed it.
