Fishing for ideas


So this is what I got to work with.. 99 2WD 2.5L. I really enjoy the hell out of this truck and want to do some cosmetic/performance improvements, but being 2WD and a 4 cylinder it seems my options are rather slim in terms of a decent 4WD mock setup. Not going the street truck route, not just for me. I would like to do a lift and all, but hear so many negative things about it being that its a 4cylinder.. so basically, anyone have any ideas they could throw at me? :dunno:

dude you are the only other person on here(that I know of) with the 4 banger auto besides me. You'll hate life up steep hills:annoyed:

mine 2=level 2 inspction:sad:

Our truck*(trucks) will be rediculous with more than 2 inches of lift

dont go blocks. they dont help the ride, they only make it worst. do a add-a-leaf(it will give you 2-3" of lift) thats what i have and it gave me better traction and stiffer ride witch helps in off roading. and if you want to go higher get lift shackles. or do a leaf spring swap. they got some stuff on it in the tech library. and for the front if you dont want too much you can get colls from a F150 or a 4.0L Supercab or Explorer coils that should give you 2" or so.and the gearing is only needed for when you get bigger wheels.

my 97 xlt has 3.73 gears i would guess yours got the same

Look on the door jamb under "Axle".

I actually dont mind it too much. What I do mind is sittin still on the middle of a incline in a parking deck with a wet surface. Lets just say from now on I just stay at the bottom till I know theres enough room lol
 
Does this sound right? I looked up the Axle code and it said 87. Went to the axle listing page and it said

The only reason I ask is because I always though 4.10 were like 4wd material or something? :dunno:
 
nope sounds perfect. a lot of 4bangers came with 4.10's to compensate for lack of power.
 
Ah makes sense, so does this mean i have a little more options than what I thought before?

I have 4.10. I was told by the tire shop not to lift my little 2.5 auto more than 2 inches and not to run bigger than 31 inch tires
 
i wouldn't go anymore than 31's without regearing.

I don't know how that motor compares to the 2.3L, but my truck is only sluggish driving on the freeway uphill with bad wind.

Wanted the Fabtech 5.5 System :icon_welder: but from the sounds of it looks like a bad idea :sad:
 
5.5 is unnecessary, but suit yourself

Yes I know, my best bet would be the 3in spindles, but never really put much thought into anything since I thought anything I did would put it at a disadvantage. Now that I am seriously thinking about it and have the money laying around I have to be more realistic, hence why I started the thread.
