Well I'm finally getting around to pulling my motor and tranny. I have'nt been able to do it earlier because I've been sick for a week! I finally feel good enough to start working on it. I just got back from a shop where a guy I know discharged my A/C system for free. I've barely got the radiator out and have the tranny stick removed.

I'm going back out to work on it for now, but will post up pics after I pull it. I sure hope I can get the motor and tranny removed as one unit!

Man, it's dirty in that engine bay!

OK, here's some pics of my progress so far. All I need to do now is jack up the motor and remove the motor mounts (already have bolts out), and remove the tranny crossmember and the motor and tranny should be out. Give me a couple hours to post up some more pics!

It's dirtier then I thought in here. I guess that's what happens when one oil leak turns into another and another and another. I'll get it fixed though. Hopefully I won't be down too long....lol

Here's some more pics of it out of the truck:

I really wish I had a pressure washer because this thing is greasy man! I guess tommorow I'm heading down to AutoZone and guying a crap-load of degreaser. It looks like the oil's leaking from the oil pump shaft area where it meets the block, but I thought I repaired that a couple years back. I just bought a whole roll of gasket material from NAPA, so I'll use that around areas that I can and other areas like the oil pan and what not I'll obviously have to go buy. Any ideas on degreasing and tracing oil leaks?

Allen

I used a power washer and finished it up with brake cleaner. It was a PITA to say the least.

I know brake fluid works really really well removing grease and oil. I might just go to Wal-Mart and buy a whole bunch of it because I know it's cheaper there. Should I buy wire brushes?

Allen

the good thing is where it's wet and oily, brake clean pulls it right out with a toothbrush or something, the dry black stuff is what's hard to get off...

Yeah the powerwasher made short work of the dried on crap, but wouldn't touch the still liquid oil/grease. That's where the brake cleaner came into play.

You will clog up a wire brush in no time flat on caked on grease. Better to use a flate putty knife.

If your going to use brake fluid be very careful as brake fluid WELL REMOVE AUTO PANT and then it well be :nopityA:

I actually called a couple of buddy's a few minutes ago and one of them has a brand new power washer. He said I could borrow it. I'm going to go that route first. I need to clean the engine bay too!

Tomorrow, in the morning the pressure washer's going to the engine and then I can start replacing gaskets and seals. More updates soon!

I was pretty busy today with the kid's in school, doctor's office, and a few other errands, but still somehow managed to get her cleaned up a little. She was a dirty girl. I found a complete "lower engine gasket set" at AutoZone for $20.99 so I went to Kragen where their original price was $36.99. They price matched it and beat it by 5% so I'm happy there, only thing is they had to order it so I'll pick it up tomorrow after 2:00pm. You can't beat a kit like that for under 20 bucks! It comes with: oil pan gasket, front AND rear crankshaft seals, oil pump gasket AND o-ring, the sensor gasket on the side of the oil pump, oil pickup assembly o-ring, and the funny front auxillary seal deal. SCORED!!!

Engine bay all cleaned up begging for a clean, tuned up motor!

Not bad for a borrowed pressure washer....lol

Still some grime on the engine, but I swear some of this stuff is mixed into the metal......geez. Good enough though, after all the motor's not new and I just need to stop those darn leaks.

Bought these hollow punches so I can make my own gaskets for little items like the EGR and what not. Got to get back to the auto parts store tomorrow to get my new clutch kit. Later.

Allen

are you replaceing the motormounts? NAPA has some that are solid rubber and not the crappy hydraulic filled units. Although from the pics those look reasonably new.

Yeah, they're about 4 months old or so, but it's nice to know they make solid ones. NAPA huh? Thanks. I'm waiting for that "lower engine gasket set" to come in today so I can start putting this thing back together. I don't have the tool to remove the main seals front/rear. Can I use anything else? What do you recommend? I'm hoping I'll be driving it sometime Sunday/Monday afternoon.

Then I can go back to work.....hahaha.
