So somebody just stole my cd player out of my truck the other night. Now I have nothing to listen to. My uncle gave me two stock radios for my 1992 to see which would work as a replacement. Unfortunately they didn't work. So I was wondering how to put a cd player back in my truck for not a lot of money. Is there a factory cd player out there for this or possibly retro fit? I'm not asking for instalation help just if there are factory CD players.

First of all this should be in audio, now to answer your question I think your going to have to step up to an aftermarket radio but I've seen some new radios go cheaper new then used ones at some wreckers.

I agree you can get a cheap aftermarket for way less, and be fine.

Cheap player

Here is a cheap one that even has a front aux plug in for your mp3 player or something, plus crutchfield sends you a free mounting kit/wiring harness and great instructions on puting it in.

I don't know if that vintage Ranger ever came with one, but you might check at a JY in their Taurus/Sable section (at least, every JY around here has a Taurus section). The higher end ones in the second gen range had a CD option and should work. I took my old Ranger tape deck and stuck it into my sister's 95 Taurus without issues.

The factory CD players also require an external amp (behind the passenger kick panel on the Ranger) or they don't work. More trouble than it's worth.

JoeCanada that was only the premium audio package that came with the amp.

Yes, (with dry sarchasm) only the premium sound radios required an amp, but since the CD player factory head unit
was the TOP of the "premium sound" heap, YES it
requires an external amplifier.

BTW, don't blink, this topic is being moved to audio... POOF!

He is correct, as is AllenD. All Rangers of that era had an amp if it had a CD player. This didnt change until 1995. or was it 96, dang it hate being old

There IS a away to make it work relatively painlessly...

you need to go junkyard crawling and find a 1992-93 Mustang.

Look under the passenger seat.

IF you find a square amp take it and the wiring up to the head unit.

This amp and the harness are basically an "appliance" that plug into
the normal non-premium stereo wiring and "adapt" non-premium wiring
to a premium head unit and amp....

This only works on the single DIN radios.

hit up ebay. should be able to find 1 for like 30bucks! or you could go ahead & get a good radio that in the stores run you like 200 & get it for like 50-100 & TAKE THE FACE OFF THE RADIO. even if you leave it under you seat atleast they dont see it left on the radio & take it!
