Facebook Marketplace?

I posted my car trailer on Craigslist and didn't get any interest in days, and then posted it on Facebook marketplace place and got interest right away and had it sold within 24-hours.

Ive seen some outrageous ads like a 94 F150 for $800. Photo looked like one from the original sales literature. And a few ads will say “seller is away and on vacation mode”.

Data mining is something that's been going on since CompuServe and probably ARPANET. I know because I was doing it.

I've learned to live with it. You cannot avoid it. Safety in numbers. Hide in the open etc.

I've had great success on FB Marketplace. All of the things that have been said earlier in this string are true - you learn to recognize and deal with it.

I've never bought anything thru Marketplace and since I'm being tracked, I've never sold anything thru there either.

That's actually against their community standards. They are fully within their rights to remove your account if you don't use your real name.

That's fine.... both of them have had their fake accounts for years without problems.

One of them does multiple transactions... BIG transacations.. a week with his fake name.

He's gone from having a dozen broken mowers, traded those for ATVs and such.. bundled some of those to trade for vehicles.. traded vehicles for heavy equipment... traded the equipment for better vehicles... it's never ending and super impressive.

Last week he traded some crap for a 85 squarebody lifted 9" sitting on 43" tires lol.

Never underestimate the power of a fake profile

Ive always been in awe of people with that kind of talent.

I think it's more about the willingness to just put the the time in, rather than sheer talent. He's CONSTANTLY checking for new listings, has auto alerts set up so he gets notifications for certain listings, even just picks stuff up because it's a good deal and would make for good trade fodder.

Hell.. he even sets up trades using trades he hasn't even traded for yet.. and pulls it all off. Like... awhile ago he was after this zero turn lawn mower.. guy with the mower didn't want to trade for whatever he was offering.. so he asked what he WOULD trade for.. guy tells him a wood splitter.. my buddy scours listings looking for a splitter.. finds a splitter IN THE PICTURE of a listing for SOMETHING ELSE.. messages the person.. and ends up trading for it 😂 then he goes and gets the zero turn.

Then he traded the zero turn, a non running go-kart, and a pancake compressor for a Meyers Manx and a Suzuki sv1000 which he rode all last year. Traded the bike for a beat up 04 chevy and a 2015 mountain sled, traded the mountain sled for a supercharged 06 chevy, traded the bike and something else for a 74 charger... it's really never ending lol.

I personally couldn't deal with it. Everyone on marketplace is a total jackass and I hate having to deal with them.

I suspect that the talent comes in being able to recover it nicer rose petals.
