Extended Useful Life Sensor

i just got my EVTS for my 87 ranger.
I saw the Extended Useful Life Sensor, what is it for?

I've never heard of that

Mine must be working well though...my truck is 24 yrs old and still useful (zing!)

I have searched the web and i still can figure it out.
Most people have it confused with the Inferred Mileage Senor
