My brother in law called a few weeks ago saying the trans in the 02 Explorer felt like it was slipping. I referred him to a reputable shop and today they told him it's not the trans, it's the transfer case control module. What I'm reading online is it's a common problem. Is it fair to assume that's the issue? Do I disconnect the battery before we swap the new one in? I've read both ways on that one. Is the one on the market now an updated version, or will he have to change it again in a few more years?
