has anybody installed one of the explorer consoles in a 1st gen ranger? I read the tech article already and i jus want to know if its abouut the same in the older trucks also. Any help would be great

I asked this awhile ago and was told the ceiling profiles are different and they could maybe be modified to fit.

If you are feeling lucky there is a kinda neat OHC that 1st gens came with... just a tad on the rare side though.

I saw one of those once. It was pretty cool.

I have only seen pictures. The first one I find is mine, dunno if it will fit with a steel roof but I am gonna try. :icon_thumby:

There was a kid on here a couple years ago with an 83-85 that was fighting tooth and nail trying to get his 2.8 to pass smog in California... had a mint loaded truck. It had the overhead console and the center console that went up the back of the cab... never seen either in real life.

^^ Did you connect the vss wire(gray/blk), I'll be doing this mod on a 91, I'm just trying to get the small details together

I have one or two of the first gen consoles with that flip down light, they are pretty cool. I did put one of the Explorer overhead consoles in my 89 BII.

It looked like the headliner contour was a little off at first, but once I got the bracket bolted to the roof and the console attached to it, it tightened down snug to the headliner and looks great.

I connected the VSS wire and the temp wires so everything works like it should.

Where does the vss connect to,ecu or ?

I connected mine to the VSS where it comes out of the ECU. If you need to know the wire color I can check and let you know.

Yeah, I have the ecu wires for my 91 it's a 2.3,just wanted to know if it was connected on the positive side or negative side of the the vss
Thanks.
