I've been looking around the classifieds for a while for an 87-91 with a 302 and a manual trans but the only one I've been able to find is about 2500 miles away on the opposite side of the country.

So I guess my question is, exactly how rare are these trucks, really? Has anybody ever seen one? I may have to start looking for a couple generations older to get one without a mushbox. But if worst comes to worst, how reliable is the c6 compared to a standard trans?

They're out there, I was looking to buy one a few months ago but had the same issue. Seems like they're few and far between. Out of the 4 that I looked at only one was a 302/standard combo, the other 3 were 300/standard.

The C6 is definatly a solid auto tranny. From what I gather, they're one of the most reliable autos Ford made. The only issue is that they're rough on gas mileage since they're a pretty heavy duty trans.

IMO you should hold out until you find one thats standard/302. Hard to find but I wish I didn't settle for an automatic.

Most of the ones I've seen were automatics...

I've never seen a 300-6 Bronco around here though, they all seem to be 302 and 351

But, if I found a 300-6 FSB with a stick... I'd probably take it anyway... not very fast but it'll pull a house. My work truck is a F-150 5-speed with 3.08 gears and 31's (yea, I'm working on the gearing, lol), I hooked it to about a 30' tall oak the other day and it yanked it out like a rotted tooth. I was watching for traffic (it was in the middle of where a driveway was being cut in) and didn't realize the tree was out till the slack jerked out of the strap after it came down, lol.

Let me know if you find a 300-6/stick FSB. I want one.

Not so much interested in speed or even towing power, even though it has planet of it. You just can't blow up those 300s. I was talking to a guy who was doing the sodium silicate for C4C, he said it took 30 min to lock up a 300.

+1 I'd drive the hell out of one if I could ever find it. I just spent the last hour browsing classifieds on my phone and didn't find a single one with a stickshift.

lol, I got into a dispute the other night over what was a good truck to have (arguing with a chevy lover and a dodge lover). The argument kind of died when I said that my work truck was a F-150 with a 300-6.... lol, both remarked about how wonderful of a motor it is. Not all that fast, but gobs of pulling power and doesn't know when to die.

There were a few floating around up here a while ago. Just buy one with an auto and make it a manual.

I had thought about it, possibly getting a 351 with a c6 and swapping the trans out of a super duty or something. Finding one with a straight six around here seems almost as rare as a manual trans. Oh well, I'm just dreaming for now anyway.

What all would be involved in a swap like that?

Do it. Find one and then grab a ZF and throw it in.

all i can tell you is the C6s are one tough bitch. i was using my 79 with no brakes in the deep snow going ahead and the wheels still spinning and id lock her in reverse an mat it and shed dig in to gear an tear off and then repeat (yes i was stuck lol) and she still shifts like a dream

I did a quick search in the local classifieds and found a number of FSB's with manuals and a v8

+1

An overdrive would be really really nice when you have 4.10's. Dad's F-350 turns about 3k going down the highway with a 4spd and 4.10's on 235/85-16 tires.

I had one.... Was awesome but the shifter was bent.... Broken knuckles off the dash everytime i had to put it in first or third. After i sold it, saw it in the junkyard because the owner found a different ride. Very po'ed
